Site Updated (UPDATED 1 May 2018)

by on Jun.14, 2016, under Site News

UPDATE: It has been a while since I have attended to this site. Sorry. Some technical difficulties have also prohibited maintenance in the meantime. However, problems have been resolved now and further maintenance and upgrading will follow! Stay tuned!…

The Galleries have been moved to the menu bar. They have been edited and re-organised. Just click on the one you want to view, following the instructions.

The menus in the side-bar on the right have been streamlined, edited and re-organised.

Things have been generally tidied up.

A music player has been installed on the Music page. (Try it!)

The next project will be to insert more clips on the Movies page (there is one there already, though not visible on iOS devices – I will try and find other ways to insert videos for these, however this site is limited to 50Mb file sizes maximum). Everything is dependent on format and file size.

Catchya later! 😀

Site Return

by on Jun.07, 2016, under Site News

Hello dear All.

For any who might have had difficulty arriving here over the last month or so here is the explanation…. Two things happened simultaneously.

First, the host-server experienced a hardware problem and had to move to a new server unit – it was unfix-able. This problem was resolved as quickly as it was physically possible to do so. (Great job guys, thanks).

At the same time, I was unaware that my domain (name) had expired. This was the bigger and more time consuming problem, as follows…

A friend of mine helped with setting up my domain originally years ago, but I had no idea with who, or how. (He also installed WordPress on the host server and connected the two, bless him). However, since the expiration I lost the ability to get to my site, as you would have if you had tried to visit. When entering the URL into a browser you would arrive at a “Go Daddy” page, stating that the domain had expired and was available for auction.

Counselling with the admins at the host server where my site is held, it was recommended that all I had to do was re-purchase the domain (name), however, as I did not know where or with who this was done originally I had to follow an alternative route to getting the domain back in my possession, as follows…

My domain was up for auction with Go Daddy, so I had to register for the auction and submit a bid for it myself. I was banking on the fact that as I was the original owner “I” would not contest it, also that because the name was so specific it would be of no use to anyone else my “chances” were probably good. (The only problem might have been if someone malicious was monitoring and wanted to interfere in some way – I employed a lot of prayer-power to ensure that that did not occur).

It took a week, but because my bid was uncontested I was able to win at the lowest possible price. So, I got my domain back, Yay! It is all bought and paid for and now renews automatically each year, so now I am back in control.

One other advantage to being able to retain my domain name is that money already invested in other aspects, such as my business card, was not wasted. Yay!

It took another week for Go Daddy to set everything up on their server, then I had to point the domain to my site on the host server. It took another 48 hours for everything to reflect all the connections made.

It has been a bit of a learning curve for me along the way, but “with a little help from my friends”, and the the nerds, geeks and admins at my host server and the folks at Go Daddy… Here we are!

I hope to explore reviewing, revising and renewing the site in more interesting ways in the future, utilizing all the good stuff and possibilities I have become aware of over this last month.

In my experience I have so often found that every “problem” usually provides an opportunity for better solutions and greater improvements. It’s all good!

Always, David.

Apologies (up-dated 27 March 2016)

by on Mar.26, 2016, under Site News

Something was brought to my attention, a couple of weeks ago, by an e-mail via my contact form from someone I did not know and had never heard of — they had received some “phishing” mail (spam) from this site.

This was news to me and I replied that it was not from me, not mine.

It is the only message I have ever received from anyone about anything like this, but if anyone else might have been bothered in this way, I apologize.

Just recently I heard from the admin at my server asking if I had done anything to fix errors they had found. Again it was the first time I had heard from them about anything untoward, and so I sought advice.

Some effort has been made already, up-dating software and security, and I will take a deeper look into the guts of things. (All done!)

Please feel free to let me know if anyone else experiences any more bad behavior from my site. Try to provide me with as many “specifics” as you can, to help pinpoint the problem. (And PLEASE – NO FOUL LANGUAGE is necessary to get my attention – ungracious folks will get NO personal response from me.) Thanks.

One thing I have found is that some PDFs have disappeared. I will try to get to that and fix it in due course. (Also done! They have been removed as they were irrelevant anyway.)

Other content that is no longer available has been removed, and generally things have been tidied up a bit. Things should be easier to navigate and find now.

In the meantime, I wish everyone a very Happy Easter, and if you want to keep up with “the news” and current events, visit my other site:

Site Update! (Updated 27 July)

by on Jul.22, 2015, under Site News

27 July — A gallery of examples of my body-painting has been added here: http://davidthebodypainter.com/body-art/ (See notes on page) The Make-up Gallery has been edited also, here: http://davidthebodypainter.com/make-up-artistry-gallery/

This site has been reconstructed. It has been a while since I have been able to maintain it and some features have become unavailable or unusable due to updates from third-party providers in the meantime.

For example the “CoolIris Wall” is no longer supported as it uses “Flash” technology that was not deemed safe by the NextGen folks. (It also did not work on iOS devices for this reason). It is a shame, because I really liked it. (Perhaps this is why this site has been plagued by countless attempted malicious logins. These have been more of a nuisance than a problem though, as this site is VERY well protected!)

The “ClustrMaps” widget is also gone, sadly (it showed how many visitors I had to this site, from all over the world – thousands!). Again, the ClustrMaps folks have been having on-going problems for some time since initially switching servers some months ago, and I could not keep up with the techno-speak to be able to make all the adjustments necessary to maintain it. I don’t think I will bother with it now. Sorry.

I have deleted and streamlined a lot of content. Generally I am keeping the content here that has more to do with my work, which is what the site is for of course. (If you have any interest in my other interests, then go here: https://davesnewsblog.wordpress.com/)

My MakeUp/Body Artistry is pretty much “on hold” for now, as I am not in Iceland and that is where my kit and all my contacts are. I hope to pick up where I left off when I return. I can’t say when that will be right now I’m afraid. Where I am now is not conducive to my work, so I am spending more time on my writing and other projects.

Thanks for listening and for bearing with me. (I can’t tell you how much I miss everyone in Iceland!). 🙂 Anyway…

Always, David

Make-up school!…

by on May.12, 2013, under Site News

10 May 2013: Graduation! With a respectable “8”! Not bad for a guy I think! 😀

05 May 2013: Well, “it’s over!” – Can’t be “undone” now! – The final “Fantasy” was a LOT of fun 😀 (pics will follow next week – we’ve been asked not to “publish” until after the graduation on Friday 10th May – hope I pass!) “Seð og Heyrt” was there to take some pics, so you might catch a glimpse in the next edition! 😀 Other than that, you will have to come back to this site to see the end result as the pics will not be “legal” on facebook! 😀

I just want to say that it has been “challenging” for me (being a guy!) – so many “firsts” for me to have to try and learn (again, “being a guy”)! However, I had EXCELLENT teachers (thank you dear Elsa & Selma), and WONDERFUL class-mates, ALL of whom helped make it easy for me to be good! Thank you ladies – kudos to you all! 😀 And thank you, each and every one, who stepped up on “model day” each week!

I also want to  thank all the other contributors to our learning process – visiting instructors with years of experience in the different disciplines of make-up and production (theatre, TV, film, fashion, etc) as well as recent graduates – all of whom helped in giving valuable insights into just about every aspect of the work as a make-up artist. I’m just sorry I don’t have all their names available to list here, but Kristín, Tinna and Nenita spring to mind right off!

Then there was the very valuable and appreciated tips and advice and encouragement given for my final project over Skype by…? (sorry, forgot her name), the encouragement and awesome skills of our photographer for our finals projects, dear Aldís, and last, but certainly by no means least, sweet Arna, my model for both finals, without which they would never have happened, and certainly would not have turned as well as they did. Her fun and free approach to modelling and the photo-shoots showed real professionalism (and made me look good)! Thanks again Arna! 😀

I LOVE women, and working with them has been fun, a real honour and “a treat” – I thank God I’m a man, so I can appreciate them! (I was also the ONLY one at the school!) 😀

Will let everyone know if I graduated next week, and hopefully have some pics of that too!

27 April 2013: The last week – starts Monday 29th, finishing with the “Fantasy” final on Friday!

04 April 2013: Into the last two weeks of training. Two weeks of prep and “final exams” after that! Needed models are critical now, so if you have agreed, please don’t “bail”. It is nigh-on impossible to find any “last minute replacements”, especially for the “finals”. Thanks. 😀

13 March 2013:  Half-way through the course now! (See here if you haven’t looked recently: http://davidthebodypainter.com/make-up-artistry-gallery/ ) As a result I can offer to do make-up at half-price, for now, after I graduate it will go up! (You might want to take advantage of the opportunity! 😀 ). This site will also be changing somewhat, to reflect the additional services I will be offering in the future, such as…… Still to come – more on styles from the 20’s through to the “punk” era, Black & White, “drag”, Geisha, Baroque, Catwalk & Fantasy! (See here: http://davidthebodypainter.com/fordunarskolinn-vantar-model/ – After that “to infinity and beyond!” 😀 ) You may notice that I still need models! If you would like to be one, get in touch, “as soon as….” – “First come, first served!” 😀

While here, just “a reminder” for those who are able: http://davidthebodypainter.com/the-master-builder/

…It’s going GREAT! – I’m having SO much fun, and the instructors and fellow students are THE BEST! I just finished my 3rd week (11 more to go – building up to a “grande finale”!), and I have decided to make A PAGE here on my site to reflect what I am doing, and WILL be doing in the future!

This site is “David the Body Painter”, and I will continue “painting bodies” as long as there are bodies who wish to be painted! However…

I will be diversifying! If/When I graduate, my goal will be to provide “full service”, of anything and everything to do with make-up and body art! “I’m going ‘professional’ people!” – publicly and privately! 😀 Yay!

I will post sample pics “as and when” I have them available throughout the course, just to “whet your appetite”! Here: http://davidthebodypainter.com/make-up-artistry-gallery/

If you don’t know what I am talking about, then go here: http://davidthebodypainter.com/the-master-builder/ to get a clue! And go here: http://davidthebodypainter.com/fordunarskolinn-vantar-model/ to see what it is I am learning exactly (as well as how YOU can help maybe)!

By the way, we did make-up for some very cute mature women yesterday (14. feb – “Valentine’s Day”), and you can see some pics in today’s “Morgunblaðið” (15. feb) if you want. (I heard that “yours truly” shows up in that!) Anyway… 😀

Proof I Did It!

“Stay tuned” folks, because I am totally, seriously, “into” this! 😀
